Growing Healthy Veterans (GHV)
Help us transform lives! Your donation to Growing Healthy Veterans supports the expansion of our growing spaces and creates a sustainable and healthy food source in North Chicago that empowers, heals, and unites veterans, active-duty military, and residents!
Growing Healthy Veterans is planning to expand our growing efforts to feed more residents of North Chicago and increase engagement with veterans and active-duty military. Our approach addresses and improves multiple community issues through the power of horticulture. We will be both providing nutritious produce to an extremely low-access food area, as well as offering a healing space for military members to come together as a community and continue their service. By securing a piece of land and installing a hoop house, we will provide more food and additional opportunities for veterans and military members to serve year-round. On top of our current community garden, we also have projects in the works with a local daycare, Rosalind Franklin University, and the Lovell Health Care Center to install small garden plots across the city. To ensure success, we are raising funds to employ a full time employee to oversee our efforts as well as part-time interns who live in North Chicago and will provide additional assistance. Funds are also needed for the costs of materials required for the daily operations of our gardens.
